Data management support activities
M1-42 (Lead: HCMR, MARIS)
The activities in this task are “horizontal” and will reach out into the activities under task 6.2 and 6.3 and facilitate the process. The partners in this task will liaise and support in the data management of the PSS and RI’s with specific attention.
Subtask 6.4.1: Best Practices in data management and related software (M6-48) (SOCIB, HCMR, IEEE)
Best Practices from platforms and sensors as involved in JERICO-S3 will be collected, adopted and created, in close cooperation with PSS, IRS’s and the platform and sensor experts in tasks 6.2 and 6.3. The partners in this subtask will guide the process by: (a) Create overview of existing Best Practices, identify possible gaps in BPs, guide the process to adopt and/or create new BP’s, and add to IODE OBPS repository (D6.6), (b) Harmonise with the Best Practices from single platform perspective, covering the whole data flow from data acquisition (WP5) to dissemination, (c) PSS and IRS’s platform operators will be contacted and via a “data management committee” with representatives from the PSS and IRS’s involved in defining and applying best practices.
Subtask 6.4.1.2: Compiling data management software (MARIS, SOCIB, VLIZ)
The virtual environment in WP7 will offer a platform where data provider can process data. Partners in this task will explore and compile existing software solutions for data management of selected platform and sensor types, e.g. Jupyter notebook scripts used in QC, SWE profiles descriptions, Data harmonisation scripts. Solutions will be tested, documented and provided to WP7 for the possible development steps. All available software will be made available through a JERICO e-library (in D6.9 – library provided by WP7) so it can be accessed from the virtual environment in WP7.
Subtask 6.4.2: Supporting Interoperability via improved FAIRness and towards data aggregators (M1-48) (HCMR, ETT, MARIS, VLIZ, OGS, CEFAS)
In order to provide optimized access to data from the JERICO coastal infrastructure it is important that the JERICO platforms, esp. the data from PSS and eRI, are FAIR and flowing towards the international aggregators. This means metadata and data standards and best practices will need to be adopted as much as possible early in the data life cycle, and datasets need to follow the FAIR principles. Priority actions will be: (a) Evaluate FAIRness of data using the GOFAIR metrics with the PSSs and IRS’s, harmonisation of data and metadata to enhance FAIRness, including provenance information (D6.7), (b) Achieve close communication with EMODNet Chemistry/Biology regarding BGC (OGS) and biology data standards (VLIZ) already developed and in progress for some parameters, including work on use of and extending vocabularies (VLIZ/MARIS), (c) Interact with the involved platform and sensor communities to adopt standards of aggregators CMEMS, SeaDataNet, EMODNet (all task partners), (d) Promotion of SOS/SWE standards and existing profiles for real time data stream and provenance. New tools and services like SOS V2 should be adopted. (all feeds into D6.10).
