Tasks objectives and main achievements
Task 5.1: Create value for measures data
The aim of the task is to develop common procedures for assigning uncertainties to measured parameters within JERICO that comply with state-of-the-art uncertainty measurement methodology.
The outline for the document “Guidelines for Uncertainty” (the first deliverable of the task) has been prepared and sent to the other Partner (HCMR) involved in the activity, for comments and suggestions.
A literature review on temperature and salinity measurement, aimed at establishing a procedural framework for uncertainty evaluations for these variables within JERICO, is also in progress.
Task 5.2: Harmonisation of delayed mode data management procedures with SeaDataNet
The goal of this task is to define guidelines to enable access to observations from the coastal platforms operated within JERICO in delayed-mode via the SeaDataNet (SDN) data management infrastructure, and to assist Partners in the necessary interfacing operations.
A first version of a DM Data Management Handbook (D5.1) providing guidelines to observation providers has been prepared and delivered. The document takes into account the lessons learned from SDN and contains all the references and links to the basic and most important online documents that data providers would need to successfully manage their data within JERICO.
A subcontract has been set up with MARIS to support observation providers that are not NODC’s to connect to the SDN infrastructure.
Another subcontract has been signed with MARUM to set up procedures to describe accurately observatories and their on board sensors, using the SensorML standard. Further efforts to harmonize the delayed mode data flow through the SeadataNet project are continuing.
Task 5.3: Harmonisation of real time data management procedures with MyOcean/EUROGOOS and the institution of data access services for JERICO TOP activities
The goal of this task is to define guidelines to enable access to observations from the coastal platforms operated within JERICO in near real-time via the EU Marine Core Service’s MyOcean (MyO) data management infrastructure.
Efforts have been focused on making data coming from Partners available and readied for distribution in (near) real-time (NRT) mode through IFREMER’s Coriolis Data Assembly Centre; the involvement of the participating platforms and the integration of the NRT data stream are being handled through WP7 – Services and Data Access.
A sub contract has been set up with CAPGEMINI to develop a specific indexing and data distribution scheme to help observatories to interact with the MyOcean TACs. A first version of a RT Data Management Handbook (D5.2) providing guidelines to observation providers has been prepared and delivered. The document takes into account the lessons learned from MyO/EUROGOOS and contains all the references and links to the basic and most important online documents that data providers would need to successfully manage their NRT data within JERICO. It also presents the guidelines to be followed by Partners during the JERICO Service Data Access period that began in January 2013.
